making waves where we live

events

We are committed to creating transformative and impactful work in professional and educational settings, but most of our time is spent in our actual communities. That is why nuwave has committed itself to creating transformative community events that uplift and celebrate Black and Brown folks.

the black experience

BX’ 23

With the inaugural event of the Black Experience being a hit we had to put it on again. (www.blackexperiencevt.com) . Instead of celebrating Juneteenth, this time we used BX’23 to end Black History month with a bang; and that we did! Before the festivities, we hosted a health event in partnership with UVMMC; providing free health screenings. Shuttle transportation to and from both events were also provided thanks to GMP.

Now at the festivities, we brought back some local Black musicians and spoken word artists and welcomed new performers. New to BX was our headliner performance from world famous Philadanco! We also welcomed back local Black lead community organizations to further increase visibility and support with the greater public. We also welcomed back iconic Angela Davis as our headliner for our fireside discussion also featuring Dr. Tricia Rose!

BX’ 22

We started the work through our inaugural Black Experience (www.blackexperiencevt.com) event in June of 2022. We built our programming around 3 core pillars: Culture | Community | Education.

We celebrated culture by bringing together local Black musicians and spoken word performers. We celebrated community by featuring local Black lead community organizations in an effort to increase visibility and support with the greater public. We celebrated education by having an all Black female panel discussion headlined by the iconic Angela Davis.

We hope to make BX a staple of Black History Month and a cultural celebration of one of the most underrepresented communities in the second Whitest state in the US.
